The Youth fellowship in my church is divided into younger youth fellowship (shao4 nian2 tuan2) and elder youth fellowship (qing1 nian2 tuan2). Currently, younger group consists of approximately 20 persons and elder group consists of approximately 5 persons. Three years ago, when I first joined this church, there is only 1 youth fellowship, for range of age 13 to 35. Later on, we found out that the range is too wide and people’s need can’t be taken care of. So, the elder group decided to form another fellowship. Three years down the road, and till today, from a group of around 10 youngsters, had downsized to a group of only 5.
Sounds sad right? The committee had been discussing the reason why the people in the age of 18 to 35 refused to commit themselves in fellowship. All kinds of methods had been thought of in order to bring more people to fellowship. But as what we can see now, in human’s point, we had failed to gather the youngsters to commit in the fellowship. However, the fellowship is still going on, and the pastors are training the youngsters to be a role model to the younger group. Pastors encourage us to take care of the younger group, take charge of their transportation and be their friends and mentor.
Last night after the fellowship, pastors had an informal meeting with few of us, the elder group. As Pastors had officially resigned from the church and they will serve in our church till the end of the year, they encouraged Sister Rui Min to commit in youngster ministry. Sister Rui Min is a sister with full of love and has a heart for God. She has been serving whole-heartedly in many areas in church. She is the pianist for Sunday Service, in charge for church choir, the teacher for the younger group and also the leader of the evangelism group. She works as a teacher in school and also piano teacher as her part time job. Hence, sometimes she couldn’t always join all the events in the church due to time constraint. Pastor encouraged her to manage her time in a way that she can commit in taking care of the youth. Hope that she can make it.
Today in church, I had seen some facts. I talked to a sister and from our conversation, I can tell that she is quite tired of serving. She told me that she hope that she can stop handling that area that she is handling, as the responsibility is too huge. I feel so upset when hearing her words. I encourage her to stays on. She told me, if someone not willing to serve, you cannot force her. Yea, she is right that I cannot force her. Frankly, I am really upset to listen of such a word. I have been asking the Lord and myself, why is it Christians are not willing to serve. Till now, I still do not have an answer. Is it because their needs are not being satisfied? What make them feel unsatisfied? Why? Hope that I will have an answer someday. Well, the church belongs to God. God will surely take charge of it. Doesn’t care of how many will serve in the Church; I only know that, for me, I will surely serve the Lord.
